Things That Make You Go Hmmm…

I want to share with you something that happened to me this week. Something that made me go hmm….

Every Sunday night, I write out a weekly planner for our Au Pair who lives with us and I pop it on the fridge. It sets out what she needs to do every day and the times that I'm going to be home. Last Sunday, I wrote on the planner for Wednesday, ‘Melinda home late after dinner, 7:30pm.’

So Wednesday comes around, and head up to my home town of Ipswich for a funeral. It started at 2pm, so I thought, I'll go up to Ipswich, attend the funeral, and then catch up with a couple of friends while I'm up there and get home at 7:30.

It was a beautiful service and I had the opportunity to catch up with family and friends. At 4:30, the sky started to darken and it looked like a storm was brewing. I was tired and to be honest I just wanted to get home to my kids and get an early night. So at 4:30, I left Ipswich, thinking I’ll get home around 5:30. However, when I got onto the Logan Motorway, it was like a car park. There was a sign on the side of the road that said ‘Emergency Roadwork’. Aghhh... My GPS said to take the next exit. It took me an hour to get to the next exit and then I drove around the suburbs of Brisbane and finally arrived back at the Gold Coast.

I was exhausted. I walked through the front door and the first thing I did was head to the fridge for something to eat. I was starving! On the fridge was the weekly planner and it caught my eye. I looked at Wednesday and my note saying I’d be home at 7:30. Then I grabbed my phone, and looked down, and it was 7:31. What the??? On Sunday night, I wrote that I was going to get home at 7:30, and guess what? Despite leaving at 4:30, I got home at 7:30, just like I had predicted.

Coincidence? Hmmm…maybe and of course this is just one silly little example but for me, things like this keep happening and it makes me consider the law of attraction and its power. In the 2006 film The Secret, (later turned into a book) Rhonda Byrne claimed that your subconscious mind can control everything that happens to you. “What you’re thinking right now is creating your future. You’re always thinking, and you are always creating.”

In Dr Stephen R Covey’s book, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, habit 2 is begin with the end in mind. The idea that everything is created twice. There is firstly a mental creation in our minds, and then a physical creation or a manifestation of our thoughts.

Those of you who have been following me for a little while, know that I was able to manifest a Mediterranean man with a beard in a yellow convertible Jeep Wrangler. Now, that’s power!

So, the outcome of this story? Well, I immediately wrote what I want to achieve for the next 12 months, and placed the list in prime position on the fridge; not tucked away in my journal but front and centre in the kitchen. Let’s see what happens. I don’t think it can hurt, right? And maybe it just might work.

  • So, for you, what are you thinking about?

  • What are you putting out there in the universe?

  • What do you want to attract in your future?

  • And are your goals visual; right in front of your face every day?

“Nothing is, unless our thinking makes it so.”
